Obituary of Courtney A. Crawford

Please share a memory of Courtney to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Courtney Ann Crawford (Wilson), 40, of Ft. Dix, NJ, passed away peacefully on 3 October 2024, surrounded by her family and friends. Born on 12 June 1984 to Craig and Karen Wilson in Flemington, NJ, she grew up in Hopewell Boro and graduated from Hopewell Valley Central High School in 2002. Courtney went on to graduate from The College of New Jersey in 2006, majoring in accounting. After earning her CPA, she ascended to the top of that industry and worked with EY in NY and CA. Courtney soon realized her true calling was to help children, so she departed the accounting world. Pursuing a career in nursing led her to Rutgers University, where she earned her degree in 2013. Again, she worked to the pinnacle of her field and became a pediatric nurse at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia’s Pediatric ICU. Courtney met her husband-to-be, Brendan, in 2014, and after spending several happy years building their life together in Philadelphia, they were engaged and married in the summer of 2017. Military service meant a relocation for the newlyweds to Pensacola, FL, where they bought their first house together. Courtney maintained her devotion to care for children as a PICU nurse while teaching as an adjunct professor and volunteering as Guardian Ad Litem and with the American Red Cross. Courtney’s dream and purpose in life were fully realized when her son Cillian was born in August 2019. Although she was first diagnosed with AML at this time, she never let illness, fatigue, or fear hinder her care for Cillian. In the following years, Courtney balanced motherhood, recovery, and a return to pediatric nursing at Capital Health’s emergency department in her hometown of Hopewell, throughout which she and Brendan also navigated the demands of military service. Cillian has inherited his mother’s unbridled intelligence, curiosity, and compassion. Courtney loved spending time with her nephews, Connor Wilson and Bodie Baker, and her niece, Audrey Wilson. She lived for their endless sleepovers and cheering them on at countless hockey games. She also cherished her Irish nieces, Ivy and Margot Routley, and Aoibhín and Cara Jordan, reuniting with them in Dublin, London, and New Jersey. Outside of mothering and caring for others, Courtney cherished time spent hiking scenic trails, floating in crystal clear waters, and shell collecting along her favorite beaches: Navarre, Florida, and Grace Bay, Turks and Caicos. In the months before her hospitalization, Courtney, Brendan, and Cillian embarked on several family adventures together, including visiting Disney World and the Hawai’ian islands, and she was busy dreaming up their next adventures. Courtney is survived by her devoted husband, Brendan Crawford, and her son, Cillian; her loving parents, Craig and Karen Wilson (Murphy); her father and mother-in-law, Pat and Mary Crawford (Grant); older brother and sister-in-law, Kyle & Lauren Wilson, younger sister and brother-in-law Ashley and Ben Baker and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nephews, and nieces. She is predeceased by her maternal grandparents, John and Joan Murphy (Wasileski), and paternal grandparents, Bill and Ruth Wilson (Wittich). In her final difficult months, Courtney was lovingly cared for and advocated for by her husband, Brendan, her parents, and her siblings. We are grateful for the professionalism, attentive care, and kindness she received at the Hospital of the University of Philadelphia and the messages of support to her family during this challenging time.
