Vera J. Elko, 91, of Punta Gorda, FL, passed away on Saturday, September 28, 2024 at Tidewell Hospice, Port Charlotte, FL.
Born in Norwich Norfolk, England, Vera immigrated to the US in 1955 with her husband and first-born son to raise their family in the Trenton/Hamilton, NJ area. She worked as a shoe model at Bally’s in England. She retired from Circle F/GTE in Trenton, NJ. She taught crafts on various cruise ships in addition to bartending and catering for “Something Special to Eat and Drink” in Trenton. Her lifelong passion was roller skating, where she met her husband of 56 years. They continued Dance skating into their senior years. She was an excellent seamstress and made skating skirts and costumes for competitive skaters.
Daughter of the late Albert G. Briggs and Ada Warfield Briggs, wife for 56 years of the late Michael Elko, and sister of the late Doris Arcuri of New York, Iris Aldis of California, Albert, Cecil Thomas and Derek Briggs of England and sister-in-law of Ann Sheppard of Florida, she is survived by her son and daughter-in-law Michael and Debra Elko of Groveville, NJ, her daughter and son-in-law Sandra and William Merritt of Punta Gorda, FL, her son and daughter-in-law Joseph and Mary Elko of Hickory, NC, her grandchildren Mary (Matt) Mazur, Jennifer (Joe) Fiamoncini, Michelle Elko, and Sara (Jody) Seutter, her great-grandchildren Zachary and Ryan Mazur, Joseph Fiamoncini and Evelyn Seutter, her brother James (Pat) Briggs of Essex, England, her sisters-in-law Mary Ellen Krupa of Venice, FL and Helen Holloway of Nokimis, FL, as well as, many nieces and nephews in the US and England.
A committal service will be offered on Saturday, October 5, 2024, at 11:15 am at Princeton Memorial Park Mausoleum, 403 Gordon Road, Robbinsville, NJ.
Relatives and friends may visit on Friday, October 4, 2024 from 6 to 8 pm and on Saturday from 9:30 to 10:30 am at Kingston & Kemp Funeral Home, 260 White Horse Ave., Hamilton, NJ (KingstonandKemp.com).
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Vera’s honor to Tidewell Foundation at tidewellfoundation.org.
