Joan A Pilenza Obituary

Everyone has a favorite aunt—Aunt Joanie was ours.

Joan A. Pilenza of Hamilton Township died, peacefully, in her home, shared with one niece, on Monday evening, March 6, 2023. She was 88.

She is preceded in death by her spouse, Lenny, and survived by five nieces and nephews, who loved her dearly, and one cat named Precious. Home health aides, all of whom cared for her meticulously, were with her during the duration of her illness, and we thank them.

Our beloved Aunt Joanie proudly retired from the State of NJ as the Chief Operator after 32 years of service. In her retirement, she loved to crochet, work in the garden, and read. With a generous nature, she donated frequently to organizations that helped people in need and those without shelter. She was an animal lover, adopting several dogs and cats throughout her lifespan.

Aunt Joanie was a member of Children’s International for 35 years, sponsoring 8 young girls abroad in countries as far away as Chile and the Philippines. Having grown up in the city of Trenton, she was a member of St. Mary’s Parish until later years when she joined nearby St. Raphael-Holy Angels Parish.

Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, March 15, 2023 at 10:30 AM at St. Raphael’s Church, 3500 S. Broad St., Hamilton, NJ.

Interment will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery, 1200 Cedar La., Hamilton, NJ.

Relatives and friends may visit on Wednesday from 9 to 10 AM at Kingston and Kemp Funeral Home, 260 White Horse Ave., Hamilton, NJ.

Please consider making a donation to the Rescue Mission of Trenton or the Salvation Army in her memory.

Rest in peace, Aunt Joanie – we love you!
