Franklin "Mop" Peterson Obituary

Franklin “Mop” Peterson, a lifelong resident of Hamilton, NJ, passed away peacefully on

March 20, 2026 surrounded by his loving family leaving behind a legacy of service and a

passion for the great outdoors.

Born at home on Beal Street on September 8, 1937,

Frank was a man of character and skill who dedicated his life to his family, his craft, and

his community.

A proud graduate of Hamilton High School (Class of 1955), Frank went on to serve his

country in the United States Navy. He served as a senior machinist mate in the engine

rooms of USS Darby DE 218 and USS Mullinnix DD-944, a position that defined his

approach to life and his lifelong mastery of mechanics.

Following his service, Frank translated his skills into a successful career as the co-

owner of Liberty Tool and Die. Alongside his partner and lifelong friend, Cliff Willever II,

Frank spent many years as a machinist, known for his precision and work ethic.

Frank’s commitment to his community was evident through his service as a life member

with the Colonial Volunteer Fire Company. He served as Fire Chief (9 years) and Fire

Commissioner (3 years).

An avid hunter and fisherman, Frank was happiest in the woods or by the water. The

highlight of every fall for many years was deer hunting with his childhood

buddies—Kenny Slabicki and Cliff Willever—and a close-knit group that included his

sons Rick and Jeff, Cliff’s sons Cliff and Todd, and John "The Greek" Niagas.

He is survived by his brother, Karl (Phyllis) Peterson of Paramus, and his five

children: Rick (Karina) of Alsace, France; Lynn (Jimmy) Quinn of Venice Beach; Jeff of

Mystic; Karen (Dave) Keintz of Doylestown; and Scott Peterson (Tamika Veal) of

Hamilton. Frank also maintained a warm and friendly relationship with his former

spouse, Cindy Peterson of Venice, Florida. Frank’s grandchildren included Sr Airman

Erik Peterson, Kathleen Peterson of London, U.S. Air Force Capt. Jarrett Quinn, Jamie and

Jillian Quinn of Venice, and Nick and Ryan Novak of Doylestown.

Frank is now reunited with those who went before him, including his parents, Peter and

Hazel Peterson; his brothers, Herbert and Louis “Bud” Peterson; and his wife, Denise

Marrolli Peterson. His childhood friends from the “Coal Yard” including: Cliff Willever,

Dave Leidka, Kenny Slabicki, Bobby and Gerry Fischer, have undoubtedly gone ahead

to get his motorcycle ready for his next journey.

A celebration of Frank’s life will be held on Thursday, March 26th (5-7pm) and Friday,

March 27th (10:45-11:45) at Kingston & Kemp Funeral Home, 260 White Horse Ave., Hamilton, NJ 08610.

Interment with military honors will follow at the Brig. General Wm.C. Doyle Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 350 Province Line Rd., Wrightstown, NJ (North Hanover Twp.)08562
