Robert L. Tackett Obituary

Robert L. Tackett, 75, of Hamilton, NJ, passed away, peacefully at home, surrounded by his family, on Thursday, February 12, 2026.

Born in Newark, NJ, he was raised in Hamilton, NJ by his Aunt Stella Jacobsen and Uncle Jake (Howard) Jacobsen. He was a 1968 graduate of St. Anthony’s High School and, after graduating, enlisted in the US Army Security Agency where he served honorably in Ethiopia and Vietnam.

Upon returning home, he enjoyed a 35-year career with the New Jersey Department of Transportation, Division of Highway Construction as a Senior Construction Engineer which was followed by 10 years as a Consulting Engineer for Aurora Consulting, Inc.

When Bob’s sons joined the Hamilton Township Recreational Baseball and Soccer Leagues, he readily volunteered to coach. He loved spending summers at Long Beach Island, NJ with family and friends. He would wake up early every morning to watch the sun rise while surf fishing. He also spent time at the beaches in Delaware swimming and fishing with friends. In his spare time, he enjoyed reading, bowling and doing the New York Times crossword puzzles in ink! He had a thirst for knowledge on a variety of subjects and was continually learning. In addition, he was a great storyteller who could keep his audience captivated with humor and passion.

Predeceased by his mother Mary Tackett, Aunt Stella and Uncle Jake (Howard) Jacobsen, his father-in-law Richard Schwartz, his brother-in-law Ronald Paul Schwartz and his brother-in-law Jack Christiansen, he is survived by his beloved wife of 54 years Dolores A. (Schwartz) Tackett, his sons Robert Howard (Rhonda) Tackett and Richard Paul Tackett, his grandchildren Samantha Alexis, Robert Thomas and Anthony Richard, his great-granddaughter Sophia Rivas, his mother-in-law Ella Schwartz, his sister-in-law Candace Christiansen and his brother-in-law Richard Jacob Schwartz, as well as, many nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends.

Bob’s family would like to express their deepest gratitude to the wonderful doctors and nurses at Fox Chase Cancer Center and Samaritan Life Enhancement Care.
