David Kirby Rees, 87, of Hopewell Township, New Jersey, passed away peacefully at home on January 14, 2026. He was born on November 23, 1938, in Boston, Massachusetts.
David was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Doris Fritsch Rees; his mother, Eleanor Kirby Rees; his father, Jack Mosher Rees; his stepmother, Mary Purdy Rees; his twin brother, Dana Melville Rees; and his sister, Sylvia Rees Bullard.
He is survived by his loving daughters, Deneen Marini and her husband Lawrence, and Darcie Bochenek and her husband Chad. He was a proud and devoted grandfather to Alexander Marini and his wife Mikayla, Zachary Marini, Hunter Bochenek, Kassandra Marini, Kayleigh Marini, and Ryne Bochenek, and a cherished great-grandfather to Rowan Marini. He is also survived by his sister Nanette Rees Parnham; stepsister Diane Monteleone; stepbrother David Purdy and his wife Lee; sister-in-law Nancy Rees; and many nieces and nephews.
David was a proud veteran of the United States Navy. Following his military service, he worked at Hamner Electronics in Pennington, New Jersey. He later became a pilot for Leisure Technology, where he flew many important people around the world, and also served as a flight instructor at Mercer County Airport. An accomplished and driven professional, he additionally owned and operated two businesses, Artisan Builders and DD Builders.
David lived life with energy, curiosity, and craftsmanship. Alongside his twin brother, he built and raced stock cars. He was an avid tennis player and especially enjoyed playing doubles with his wife, Doris. His passion for aviation extended beyond his career—he built and flew model RC airplanes and served for many years as president of the Washington Crossing RC Club. He also loved fishing and hunting, and in later years found great joy in woodworking, creating beautiful furniture, décor, and finely crafted clocks that will be treasured by his family.
David will be remembered for his skillful hands, adventurous spirit, deep love for his family, and the many passions that filled his life. He leaves behind a legacy of service, craftsmanship, and devotion that will continue through the generations who loved him.
Burial and Memorial will be private.
