Mary Frances Adams Obituary

-It is with profound sadness and heavy hearts that we share the passing of our beloved “Aunt Mamie”, Mary Frances Karatka Adams, who passed away peacefully in her home, surrounded by her loving family, on July 25, 2025, at the astonishing age of 102. Aunt Mamie lived a very full and blessed long life, having been a faithful and devout parishioner of St. Gregory the Great Roman Catholic Church in Hamilton Square, NJ, since its inception. She worked at Princeton Worsted Mills (as a sock darner), Trenton Cigar Factory (as a cigar roller), and Taylor Pork Roll, and then retiring from Cases Pork Roll, in Trenton, New Jersey.

Born and raised in Trenton, New Jersey, Aunt Mamie was a devoted aunt, sister, wife and friend, and she was a true beacon of warmth, kindness and generosity. She witnessed a century of changes throughout her lifetime and was known for her strength, independence, and fierce zest for life. Her indominable spirt and legacy of unwavering love and devotion to her family will continue to inspire us and will leave a lasting mark on everyone who knew her. In her younger years, Mamie found immense joy in taking her nieces and nephews to the shore house she owned with her mother and sister in Ortley Beach, NJ. She also enjoyed her favorite hobbies which included collecting clowns, crocheting (creating many treasured ornaments—her legacy for future generations), baking (specialties of Poor Man’s pound cake, pumpkin pie, pizzelles, zucchini bread, etc.), reading romance novels, and her green thumb for gardening. She will always be remembered by her loving greeting of “I Love You – A Bushel and a Peck, and a Hug Around the Neck”.

Daughter of the late Joseph and Mary Horvath Karatka, Mary was also predeceased in death by her loving husband, Joseph Adams, who passed away in 1981, and her four-legged “son” Skippy, as well as her siblings, Elizabeth Karatka Bergner (Alfred, Sr.), Rose Karatka Murga, (George, Sr.) and Joseph Karatka (Marie), as well as her nephews, Alfred Bergner and Jeffrey Bergner, and her infant great-niece, Laura Ann Rossi. She is survived by her loving niece and compassionate caregiver, Tina Bergner, and faithful fur-baby companion “Lulubell”, with whom she resided for the past ten years of her life. Mamie is also survived by her niece, Susan Bergner Dienst (Joseph); niece Lisa Bergner Rossi (John), and her niece and devoted caregiver, Dawn Bergner. She is also survived by her nieces and nephews, Joann “Cookie” Murga Pelicano Wright (George), George Murga, Jr. (Jane), Veronica Murga Williamson (James), Debbie Murga Chianese (Carl), David Murga (Diane), Joan Karatka Nuhn (Dennis), Joseph Karatka, Jr. (Kathy), and Christine Karatka, along with many great and great-great nieces and nephews—too many to be named.

Mamie will leave an undeniable void in the lives of those who dearly loved, cherished and cared for her.
